FOOD & DRINK - ANGEL DELIGHT
ANGEL DELIGHT IN A POT
Well look what we have found…myself and The Child had a check up earlier at the dentists and both came away with a clean bill of health. We had to pop into the shop on our way home to get provisions and in light of our good teeth result, every time The Child asked me for something full of sugary goodness my response was sure, why not, after all our teeth are OK! On our way down the aisle to get some Jelly for pudding, what do I spy on the shelf but a POT of Angel Delight. I have not seen this before…I stared at it for a few seconds as the memories of Angel Delight came flooding back and slightly salivating I grabbed it to inspect it.
It will be full of additives I thought, but no! No artificial colours or flavours, no preservatives! In fact nothing bad that I can see in the ingredients at all. And it says it is made with fresh milk and is a good source of calcium. Hurrah! (This is the same basis upon which I can fill my face with Kinder chocolate guilt free as it is ‘a good source of calcium’). Well then it must be very calorific – but no! 80 calories a pot – that’s marginally more than a finger of Kit Kat ie. Not very much at all. In the basket it goes.
The child is asking me what it is – a pot full of strawberry goodness I explain. You will like it I say. I can barely wait to get home to try it. Once in, I open it in excitement and it does not disappoint. I am not sure if it tastes quite the same as I remember, but it still tastes deeeeelicious. I offer some to The Child who takes one lick then announces that he doesn’t like it. Pardon??? Why ever not? It’s too sweet he says?!? Really??? These are words that I never thought I would hear coming out of The Child’s mouth, given that he can trough his way through a slice of exceedingly sweet, rich chocolate cake without any effort where I would have given up after one mouthful.
Perhaps he is lacking the 80s tastebuds required to enjoy this. The sort that liked Wham Bars and Scampi Fries and Cadburys Crème Eggs. This is my new guilty pleasure and I just have to go on the hunt now for the other flavours as they only had strawberry in the shop. A quick google is showing that they also do banana, butterscotch and chocolate flavour. I am on a mission now to track these down....Update - Hurrah, success, I have sourced the chocolate flavoured one and The Child thinks this is the bees knees.
Angel Delight in a Pot gets a big tick from me and a big tick from The Child ✔️✔️
