SEWERBY HALL AND GARDENS

SEWERBY HALL AND GARDENS
I had not ever visited Sewerby Hall until a couple of years ago, when a friend who lives up the coast suggested we meet up there. She said it was a very good day out and she was not wrong!
Sewerby Hall, run by East Riding Council, is located just past Bridlington, on the road to Flamborough. You can either get there by car, or from Easter until the end of September, take the Land Train from Bridlington. There is so much on offer there, you can fill quite a few hours. It is situated on top of the cliff, so the view from the grounds is beautiful, looking out to sea. In the grounds, there is woodland to stroll through, a walled garden, a rose garden, a deer and llama paddock, a zoo and a playground. There is also access to the house.
The Child’s favourite bits are the zoo and the playground and the hall itself is also a hit as it is very child friendly and offers lots of different things to see and do. The zoo is quite small but has a wide variety of animals, including a wide variety of birds, many different mammals such as guinea pigs and proper pigs and even penguins.
Cafe facilities are also good, there is the Clock Tower Cafe or if you fancy a takeaway drink or ice cream there is the Stables shop. There are also many places in the grounds where you can stop for a picnic. The playground has quite a lot to go at for both older and younger children, with picnic tables in it so the adults can sit and have a coffee and a natter whilst the children play. They also do all sorts of events and there are often crafty type things going on in the Orangery.
Dogs are allowed in the grounds (though not in the zoo) and at a designated area in the cafe. The Dog is happy with this as she has perfected the art of pretending she is not interested in eating any food at all that may be near her, until you are lulled into a false sense of security and then she snaffles the lot. So be warned, if you are there and see a big, black, hairy dog near you, keep a close eye on your sandwiches!
Sewerby Hall gets a big tick from me, and a big tick from The Child ✔️✔️
Useful Information:
The car park can get quite busy so try to arrive earlier rather than later. You can pay a one off entrance fee or there are also annual passes available which seem quite good value if you think you will visit a few times over the year.
