TOP CAMPSITES
We started camping about 6 years ago and have loved it ever since. We have found it a great way to explore areas of the country that would otherwise be a bit far for a day trip. The campsites themselves are also good fun - they are a great place for children to run around and make friends. Over the years I have managed to pimp my camping equipment so that it is now a very comfortable experience. (self-inflating mattresses on campbeds and duvets - it's the way forward). This is our list of our favourite campsites so far...
![]() DEEPDALE BACKPACKERS AND CAMPING - NORFOLK
We return to the Deepdale campsite year after year. It is the perfect location for exploring North Norfolk. It is just down the road from the glorious Brancaster Beach and the Holkham estate. Just across the road from the campsite, you can walk on the footpath through the marshes to the very good White Horse pub and Brancaster Staith (some excellent crabbing opportunities) and beyond. Just down the road is the Jolly Sailors pub which has good food and a play area. Don't worry if you forget anything - at the entrance of the campsite there is a well-stocked shop next to the petrol station with fresh food and groceries and toiletries. There is also a parade of shops including a fatface, a cafe, a crabbing shop and more....Not only is the location great, the campsite itself is superb. The bathroom facilities are the best I have come across camping - you get a whole shower room (shower, toilet and sink) to yourself. There is even a warm dog wash area! We are booked in already for this year - can't wait! Website: www.deepdalebackpackers.co.uk/ ![]() HUMBLE BEE FARM - NORTH YORKSHIRE
Quite a few of our friends have stayed at Humble Bee farm and have always come back saying what a good time they had, so we were very keen to try it. We had a 3 night stay in the Easter holidays. Humble Bee Farm offer a range of glamping accommodation as well as standard camping. With the nights being quite chilly still, we opted for a stay in one of the heated Wigwams. This was the right decision. The accommodation was great - very comfy, very cosy and perfectly warm (and a lot easier than setting the tent up!) There is a play area for children and a field where they can play football and the like. Humble Bee Farm is a working farm and they have cows (much excitement watching the cows being fed in the morning), chickens (much excitement collecting eggs), ducks and ducklings, two huge pigs and sheep and lambs. The children had the best time. Not only is the campsite great, the location is perfect for accessing all the things that this area of Yorkshire has to offer - beaches, bird-watching, North York Moors, Railway, walking, cycling etc. We will definitely be returning.... Masons Campsite is a firm favourite. We have returned here every year. Situated on the banks of the River Wharfe in the Yorkshire Dales, it is situated in beautiful countryside with easy access to the river for paddling, hunting for crayfish, swimming (you might need some dutch courage, let’s just say it’s refreshing) and dinghy fun. There are pubs within walking distance and the campsite has a ‘coffee and bread shed’ where you can get a decent cup of coffee if your campside coffee is not quite cutting it. You can also pre-order fresh baguettes and croissants to collect each morning. There are some good pubs just up the road and you can walk by the river to Burnsall where there is more easy river access and cafes and a pub. There is also lots to see and do in the area - Bolton Abbey is just on the doorstep. Billy Bob's Parlour is good fun and indoors in case of inclement weather. A winning combination on many levels. We spent 2 weeks at this campsite last summer and loved every bit of it. The campsite facilities are wonderful - there is an open air swimming pool with a small baby pool, a well-stocked shop which gets fresh bread and pastries every day, a playground, crazy golf and a games room with table tennis and a pool table. The shower facilities are spacious and clean and there are washing machines, dryers and even ironing boards available. You can also arrange fridge hire. The family and employees here were extremely friendly and helpful. The location is great. There is a lovey walk down to Rozel Harbour from the campsite and the rest of the island is easily accessible either by car or bus (there is a bus stop just outside the campsite entrance). If the journey to Jersey with your tent seems like too much effort, you can also book a pre-erected tent which is fully set up for you with beds and all the kit you need. I can see why people return here year after year. We will definitely be returning. Read more here Website: www.rozelcamping.com/ |
