THE BEST TRAIN TOYS

I have become very knowledgeable about toy trains and train related things over the last few years. This is not something that I ever anticipated would happen. In my previous life BC (Before Children), my total experience of trains was that they transported you from A to B, if you could do the weekend upgrade, it was absolutely worth it, don’t try and go for a wee as the train is going around a corner and that you should avoid the smoking carriage at all costs unless you want to be instantly asphyxiated.
How things change – the smoking carriages are long gone, and we have discovered the joy of the family and friends railcard where you can get some seriously good deals if you plan ahead. (Who knew, BC, that planning ahead was even a thing!) The wee hazard still exists and it is actually now amplified when trying to manage children and the train toilet, but hey it’s nothing wipes and hand sanitizer can’t fix!
I now know quite a lot about steam trains and their huffity-puffiness. I even know what smuts are. This is down to spending quite a lot of time visiting the various stations on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to watch the steamies coming past. It’s always a tip top day out to go and watch the trains or even go on them and as an added bonus, the stations often have shops and tea rooms .
I also know a lot about the vast array of train sets available and which trains fit which tracks – this is all through the hands on experience of being the Chief Assembler when building said train tracks, ready for play. The same applies to the LEGO trains – when Father Christmas very kindly delivered the first LEGO train, I assumed it would be an assembled train, ready for play on Christmas morning – not something that was in 610 pieces (yes that’s right) – that was a challenge, but I know a lot more now about LEGO and motorising a train than I previously did!
I am however enjoying our train journey and I am sure that I will be party to many more train experiences over the years! We have compiled a list of our favourite train toys and books...I hope it is of interest / use to those train fans out there...: Top Train Toys
